Political Science as a distinct discipline explores how people’s life is influenced by the political system and the decisions of the government. As such, the study of political science has always played a key role to understand society, the nation and State politics.
The Department of Political Science (Undergraduate and Postgraduate) at St. Xavier’s College has a reputation of having energetic, young, dynamic and experienced staffs. Though this Department is still at its infancy, yet it manifests the potential for excellence in the fields of teaching and research. The Department emphasizes experiential learning and encourages students to actively participate in co-curricular activities and internships. It organizes seminars, workshops, guest lectures by eminent scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to expose students to real-world application of political science concepts. The vision of the Department is to shape the young minds in an innovative manner to provide a strong foundation and equip them with the faculty of critical thinking so that they may become modern day citizens and able leaders in their respective areas. The faculty at St. Xavier’s College is committed toward the advancement of education and academic research that fosters possibilities of intellectual and social transformation of the students and prepares them to become citizen leaders committed to values of social justice and public service.
The highly experienced and bright faculty of the Department specializes in the areas of Public Administration, Comparative Government and Politics, Political Thought, Constitution, Indigenous Issues, Religious and Philosophical Studies, International Relations, Indian Constitution, International Organization, Western Political Thought, Indigenous Studies, Political Theory, and Geo-politics of South Asia.
