St. Xavier’s College is located at the district headquarter of Simdega district. Situated on the south-western extreme of Jharkhand, Simdega shares its boundary with the district of Gumla in the north, Ranchi and West Singbhum in the east, the state of Chattisgarh in the west and Odisha in the south. It is located in the South Chotanagpur Division of Jharkhand and lies between 22 20’ N to 22 52’ N latitude, and between 84 E to 85 50’ E longitude. It covers an area of 3761 km2 of the Chotanahpur plateau. The district was carved out of Gumla district on 30th April 2001. The area is drained by five major rivers namely Sankh, Palamara, Deo, Samarsingha and Girma. It is lowland with a number of small hill blocks covered with forests. A major part of the district is in the altitudinal zone of 200m to 600m. Simdega has subtropical semi-arid type of climate with the mean annual temperature of 22 C and average rainfall of 1000 to 1200 mm.
At present the college is functioning from its G+4 transit campus at Samtoli, Simdega. A new holistic campus of the college is coming up at Dhawaipani which is around 7 km from the existing campus. One complete, the college would relocate to the new campus at Dhawaipani.
Simdega is connected with the rest of the world primarily via roadways. It falls on the NH 143 connecting Ranchi and Rourkela. The nearest railway stations are at Rourkela (70 km), and Ranchi (130 km). The nearest airports are Birsa Munda Airport at Ranchi, Jharsukuda Airport and Rourkela Airport.
